I wish I were a napper
I coach people on the need for proper sleep. Some of the tips I tell them are …
• You should get 6-9 hours of actual sleep, not just being in bed tossing and turning
• If you’re lying awake more than 30 minutes get up and restart your routine
• To help yourself drift off try concentrating on your breathing, or a ticking clock
Much to my chagrin, I only got 2 hours and 13 minutes of sleep on last night. Ugh. I was awakened at 2AM by some electronic device making noise, and that’s it… I never managed to get back to sleep. It wasn’t that I had anything pressing running through my brain, I had song lyrics playing over and over in my head. For King & Country’s “Fix my eyes.”
I followed all my sleep tips, with no success. How frustrating! I suppose that just goes to show you, there are no guarantees in life.
I noticed many Facebook posts, this morning, about people being up most of the night. I wondered if it was a full moon, so I checked. Nope, it wasn’t. Interesting.
Some of my friends will be taking naps today, and waking up refreshed. Not me. I wish I were a napper, but I end up feeling worse after a nap, and then have trouble falling asleep in the evening. I would guess there are others who prefer not to nap, as well.
For me, I’ll have a couple extra cups of coffee throughout the day – still no later than 4PM though, and hope to be back to my normal sleep schedule tonight. Gives me the opportunity to relive my youth (pretending I had fun pulling an all-nighter – grin).
I have learned to count my blessings. I am thankful sleeplessness is not a regular occurrence for me!
Gotta remember… It is what it is and, it’s all good. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
