Waiting is hard
I’ve written about patience, and how I usually equate patience with waiting – which isn’t really the case. I’ve also told folks that waiting is not one of my strong points. So, how do you go about waiting without going bonkers?!
I think there are three primary reasons we wait.
- Waiting to hear good news
- Waiting to hear bad news
- Waiting for any news
It’s the last one that really gets to me. Of course you have a desired outcome in mind, but you haven’t heard anything in so long that the outcome isn’t really the issue any more. You just want to hear SOMETHING! Which brings us back to the original question… how do you go about waiting without going bonkers?
Actually, for me it’s a matter of keeping busy.
If I get thinking about what I’m waiting for my thoughts can go either way (good or bad) and since I have no clue what to expect, playing the “what if” game has absolutely no viable answer.
In those moments when I am not busy and my mind drifts to “why haven’t I heard anything” I quickly remind myself that there is nothing I can do about the situation but wait.
We cannot be in control of everything. Sometimes we have to let it be, and accept the situation for what it is.
I’m sure you are all familiar with the Serenity Prayer…
It really does make a difference!
Although, I must say… I chuckle at some of the spin-offs I’ve seen of this. This one has to be one of my favorites… calling a friend to chat can help, too!
