Is love truly all you need?

Is love truly all you need?

And is it really easy?

I grew up listening to the Beatles and loved them as much of the world did.  This being Valentine’s Day {the day of love}, I was going to blog about love and post this video…  The Beatles – All You Need Is Love-HQ

As I listened to it, and smiled at the memories it brought back, I turned and looked outside.  That’s when my realistic side took over.

Here are on the east coast of the United States, we have been slammed with winter storm after winter storm resulting in wide spread power outages.  This begs the question, “Is love truly all you need?”

My emotions would say… “Absolutely!”   Yet my body screams… “NO!”  Realistically speaking… water may be all we need – grin.

Studies show that we can live about 2 months with no food, as long as we have water.  However, the most we would live without food and water is, typically 3-5 days.  Even the basics of survival list, Clothing/shelter /breathable air/ food & water.  Love doesn’t even make the list.

But WAIT… there are also studies that show infants need acts of love to thrive.  It appears the actual emotion need not be present, but it is better for the child if they are, indeed, genuinely loved.

So, we have established that we need water and love.  The next part of the lyrics says it’s easy.   Hmmm.

I think most of us can agree it’s not always easy.  Should it be?  Yes.  Could it be?  Yes.  Is it?  Not always.

Ah, but it IS Valentine’s Day and the concept of the song is a good one.

There are many lyrics and verses that attest to the power of love…

  • Alan Jackson says, “Faith, Hope and Love are some good things He gave us, and the greatest is Love.”

Many weddings have these verses read during the ceremony…  Love is patient…

Yes, tell the ones you love that you love them and hold them tight.  Happy Valentine’s Day!
