I’m seeing a lot about the USO lately

I’m surprised at the number of people who have never heard of the USO!  I guess being an Army BRAT I was always familiar with it.

In case you don’t know, the United Service Organization exists to support our military and their families.  Here is the “official” link, http://www.uso.org/.

Lately, here in NC, the USO and Kangaroo Express have been in the news for their “Salute Our Troops” partnership, where Kangaroo Express heads up a major fundraiser and donates the proceeds to the USO of NC and other affiliated organizations.  HOOAH!

Also, I just read, a couple days ago, that WWE Diva Eva Torres won a TV reality/game show, “Stars Earn Stripes.”  I saw the first episode.  There were eight celebrities competing for winnings to be donated to their charity of choice.  Hers was National USO.  Yea!

I’m sure many of you have gotten “junk mail” asking for you to donate to the USO.  In a world of need there are many charities looking for your money.  I can say, “I hope your donated to the USO,” but I know there are many worthy charities that pull on our heart strings (and purse strings) so I understand if you didn’t.

For those of you local to the Raleigh NC area… did you know there is a local USO center, located at the airport?  Have you ever considered donating your time, instead of your money?  If you are interested in more information about this, contact me – I’ll put you in touch with the volunteer coordinator.

For those of you who may be interested in volunteering, who don’t live near me… check out the main USO website.  There is a tab where you can “locate a center,” go ahead and contact them.  I can guarantee you will find it a very fulfilling volunteer job.  The people I have come across are so grateful for all the USO does, and it is my great honor to assist the USO in their efforts to support our military and their families!

Here are a couple pictures from the last USO/Kangaroo Express “Salute Our Troops.”

Thank you to all who serve, and who volunteer!
