We have a family of bluebirds in our birdhouse. I have a camera set up hoping to get some fantastic pictures!
I got to wondering why the bluebird is a symbol of happiness. Have you ever wondered this? Actually, as with any old story or saying, there was not a definite reason, that I could find. Yet, the phrase is around a lot.
The two most often found quotes are:
- May the Bluebird of Happiness always reside within you
- May the Bluebird of Happiness fly up your nose
Wow! What very different sentiments!
I suppose it depends on how you look at life…
- Do you see the glass ½ empty or ½ full?
- Are you a generally happy person? Do you share your happiness with others?
- Are you happy for others happiness, or do you begrudge them for it?
I can remember a time, many moons ago, when I was a glass ½ empty person. Those of you who didn’t know me then might be surprised by that, but it’s true. I didn’t get the nickname “Grumpy” for nuthin’ ya know – grin.
Although, this is still one of my favorite pictures…
Of course, as the years went I and I became more aware of the difference a positive attitude makes, I began to embrace one. I still answer to “Grumpy” but now it’s more of an oxymoron. Oh, I have my days – nobody’s perfect – but for the most part, I am one of the least grumpy people I know.
I few years ago someone asked me, “How do you do it? Stay so positive?” My answer was short, sweet, and honest. I said, “Practice.”
As with anything, the decision to have a positive outlook, and be an encouragement to others, is a choice. It’s a choice that not only effects you, but the people around you. Yes, misery loves company and negative people flock together – like crows, “caw, caw, cawing” at everyone and everything. However, wouldn’t you rather hang out with the bluebirds happily chirping to others around you? The choice is yours!
In closing, let me just say… Have a fabulous day, and a wonderful weekend!
