Are you too busy?

Are you too busy?

I recently put out our monthly newsletter, but I have a feeling that our blog readers and newsletter recipients are not the same people. I believe the information in the newsletter is important, so I am going to share it with our blog readers – grin.

“The busyness of life undercuts the intimacy of our relationships.” – Mike Lee

This is a valid point, and I am hearing many people talking about being too busy. “There just aren’t enough hours in the day.” Well, that may seem like a true statement, but the reality is there are 24 hours in a day, no more, no less.

If you are too busy, it’s possible something you are taking time to do, may have to go.

Often, the first thing people skimp on is sleep. I caution against this. Studies show you need 6-9 hours of sleep each night. Consistent lack of sleep can lead to stress, illness, and just plain grumpiness.

Many times, it is our relationships with the people closest to us that suffer when we get too busy. There’s no time for date night, or to attend your children’s activities, or be with family for a special occasion. Then we start to feel guilty about cheating our loved ones of their time. The little things that seem to be urgent have become larger than the big things that are important, all because we’ve forgotten our values and gotten our priorities mixed up.

How do you get back on track?
• Recognize you have become “too” busy
• Consider everything you do, and everything you want to (or should) be doing
• Prioritize!
• Make a plan
• Set that new plan in motion
• Re-evaluate as needed

Sounds simple doesn’t? It may not be quite that easy, but it can be done.
