I’ve probably mentioned, before, that I am an Army BRAT. Have I ever mentioned that I am also a sloucher? Not slacker! Sloucher. (Is that a real word?) Let’s put it this way, my posture could be better, and I only have myself to blame.
When I was younger, my dad would come up behind me, poke me in the spine, and say, “sit up straight.” Oh, that I would have listened. But no, little miss defiant (who me? – grin) only slouched all the more. Now I am suffering the consequences.
I often notice that I’m all hunched up. I have become aware of it and try to stand up straight and suck it in. When I stand properly, I look halfway decent. It doesn’t last long though, because I quit thinking about it and revert to a frumpy slouch. I’m paying more attention to how I feel and making a real effort to have better posture.
I see many young people slouching. I’ve even told some of my young female friends (quietly, in their ear) to stand up straight. It makes them look more beautiful when then stand up nice and tall.
I found this article about slouching and some ways to help improve your posture. I think it’s pretty good, give it a read.
Hopefully, this has made YOU a little more aware of how you are standing/sitting. Awareness is the first step to change.
