Are you a true friend?
I recently heard a promo for a Focus on the Family broadcast and was humbled by the type of friend Dennis Jernigan had. He tells that his friend said, “”I believe Jesus is the answer so much that I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get to Him. Let’s just walk towards Him together shoulder to shoulder. And if you fall down, I will not kick you; I will not say, “I told you so.” You know what I’ll do every time? I will help you up if you’ll let me, every time, as long as it takes, I’ll be there. You need a shoulder to cry on, I’m your guy. When you are so frustrated you don’t understand what to say, even what questions to ask, you need to yell at someone, yell at me. I’ll be your sounding board…” WOW! That is a true friend!!
Do you have a true friend?
Perhaps you are blessed and have a true friend like that, someone who believes in you 100% and is there for you at the first ring of the phone. Maybe you even have a group of people and you all are doing life together. Good for you!
Now, let me ask another question…
Are you a true friend to someone else?
Friendship, much like marriage, is a two way street, a little give and take. Many times if it is a one sided friendship, the one who feels they are doing all the giving just gives up. However, this is not the example of the true friend above. That guy was all in for his friend!
The best way to have a friend is to be a friend.
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.” A true friend is a lifetime friend, and if you have one – you are truly blessed.
